ABOUT > Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist living in the New York area. I use materials associated with fine art, craft, and other things I find or collect, to create two and three-dimensional works that explore formal elements and the language of sculpture. Works may be an individual piece or multiple pieces that can stay together or exist on their own. My intention is for the multi-piece works to have a sense of theatricality and relate to one another in elegant and poetic ways as an unexpected narrative of line, shape, color, pattern, form, and space. I also make large installations.

I am influenced by various art movements and inspired by too many things, including design, performance, music, chance, intuition, architecture, geometry, fashion, and natural phenomena. I am research-oriented and process-driven, and while I generally start with an idea, I make decisions as I work, and welcome random occurrences and happy accidents. In my sculptural works, I experiment with materials and use them in unconventional ways. New works may generate from an idea or cast-off material associated with the making of another work. For me, the works provide clues to an ongoing and thought-provoking visual treasure hunt.
