ARTWORK / TEXTILE Thumbnails

I refer to these non-objective sculptural works as Remchet Knimblage. They are composed of various nontraditional materials that are used in unexpected and inventive ways to challenge traditional boundaries of dimensionality and media; working three-dimensionally, I use color and line to draw and paint in space. Materials include remnant fabric, trim, foil, craft elements and everyday materials that I had hunted for or found by chance, collected, stored and stockpiled, along with elements of knitting, crochet, sewing and pinning. Often colorful, ethereal and imbued with some sparkle, these tactile works are driven by gravity, a sense of theatricality and a tension between contrasting elements and opposing dualities. By juxtaposing texture, pattern, line and shape and contrasting structured grids with fluid forms, negative space with soft and hard elements, heavy with light, and the flatness of two-dimensionality with the space and volume of three-dimensionality, everyday materials are elevated into high art.
